Jimmy's Story
written by mom Rebecca
Born September 6th, 1995 Jimmy appeared to be a healthy child. On
Thursday August 9th, 2001 he was out playing with his sister when he fell
and hit his head on the cement. It appeared to be only a bruise and a bump,
but symptoms appeared worse one week later.
On August 18th, Jimmy was throwing up and complaining of a headache. We took
him to hospital and they said he had a concussion, sent him home with no
x-rays taken. We were told to watch him closely. Then on August 25th, his
father's birthday, the symptoms worsened and he was taken back to emergency
room. That's when a series of multitude events began. First he was taken to
Riley's Hospital by Ambulance which was 137 miles away from our home.
Doctors did a series of tests and Jimmy was diagnosed with a Medulloblastoma
tumor which was cancerous. He stayed in the hospital, had six surgeries,
chemo and radiation treatments for eight weeks. Jimmy's worse time was
September 11th when he had emergency surgery of the head and was put on a
respirator. At this time, Jimmy is in a wheelchair and too weak to walk or
stand. He is in physical therapy three times a week and has shots regularly
for white blood counts.
Jimmy's spirit is aged and low for a young child of his age. For the most
part he believes that he will always be in this condition. He is also on a
feeding machine and has no will to get better alone... not even try candy.
